Don't forget this week is Holiday Dress Up Week.

There are two opportunities this week to give parent/guardian input on our new cell phone policy. Please visit this page to learn more: https://www.nlcschool.org/page/new-cell-phone-policy

NLCS students attended the annual Hibbing Technical Career Day last Friday at Minnesota North College - Hibbing Campus. The students were given hands-on demonstrations in career fields like medical and culinary arts.

Enjoying an early pre-thanksgiving warm-up for Thursday meal with students and staff. Thanks to Ben for his cooking and staff for helping serve it up!.

Passing this information along. There will be an Engineering Mentoring Night tomorrow evening at 5 pm at Barr Engineering in Hibbing. Students in grades 9-12, and their parents, who would like to know more should stop on by.

Some photos from our Veterans Day service. Thank you to all the those who have sacrificed and served in the armed forces.

On Wednesday afternoon, we put our phones down and socialized by spending some time playing classic card and board games. The competition was fierce and the laughter was contagious. We should do this more often.

Some highlights from the Halloween costume parade/contest today. We had all kinds of creativity going on. Have a safe Halloween, everyone!

A few more from Long Lake...

Some pics from yesterday's all-school excursion to Long Lake Conservation Center in Palisade. We had a lot of fun and learned some stuff despite the 30 degree temp. Students learned about Anishinaabe legends and water macro-invertebrates. We also did a physical challenge course. Way too many pictures were taken to post here, but here's a few highlights.

We were visit by goats today. Student Beretta S brought fainting, pygmy, and Nubian goats as part of her current project researching the breeding and showing of different kinds of goats. That's some hands on learning right there.

I just had to show off the result of Donna's Recycled Art class. The critters in the display are all made from random, discarded materials like cardboard, nails, and soda bottles. One person's trash is another person's treasure!

Have you ever heard of a game called 9 Square in the Air? Well, it is a big hit at Northern Lights. I tried a turn at it today and managed to be King for about 3 turns before I was dethroned.

Reminder: Picture Day is this Wednesday - 10/25.

Reminder: Halloween Carnival this Saturday from noon to 3 pm. Tickets are .50, food available for purchase, and costumes are welcome. All proceeds support MAAP Stars and other student activities. See you there!

An update from last week...three students attended the MAAP STARS Leadership Conference held at Camp Beauty in Long Prairie. Representative Addie's term in office was up and she turned over her position to a newly elected student.

Donna's advisory visited Big Sandy in McGregor yesterday. They heard a presentation from the Army Corp of Engineers regarding dams and how they affect the environment. They also visited the foundation of an old Native school and burial grounds.

Thank you to Mark and Nancy Carlson for making a donation that allowed the PE biking class to purchase some snazzy safety vests. We appreciate your support.

The NLCS student body has chosen their Student Council Representatives for the year. We have Addie M as President, Landon K as Vice-President, and Conri M as Secretary. They are joined by Beretta, Dusty, James, Salley, Michkayla, Andy, Kai, Jayden, Ellie, Zeke and Devonte. We look forward to their leadership this year.
