Kitchen Manager / Cook

REQUIREMENTS

  Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • ServSafe Certification Required
  • Experience in large-scale food preparation
  • Knowledge of state and federal guidelines for food handling

JOB EXPECTATIONS

The Kitchen Manager/Cook will ensure that all state and federal guidelines of the national school meal programs are met.  S/he will prepare and serve students attractive and nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) in an efficient and orderly manner in a clean and cheerful atmosphere.  S/he will oversee daily operation of meal preparation, kitchen work flow.  S/he must work quickly, independently and enjoy children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows National School Lunch and MN Dept. of Education Food and Nutrition Service program guidelines
  • Prepares and files daily, weekly, monthly reports/logs for food preparation as needed
  • Applies for government commodity food subsidies, and applies for qualifying rebates
  • Prepares and distributes approved monthly menus
  • Prepare, maintain, and update the ”Food Facts Sheets” book as required by the National School Lunch Program and MN Dept. of Education Food and Nutrition Service
  • Communicates with office manager regarding food allergies and other related health concerns
  • Responsible for preparing breakfast and lunch menu food items
  • Must be able to organize foods needed (often in advance) and prepare all foods following proper sanitation, safety and “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points” procedures
  • Maintains the highest standard of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen at all times. Maintains highest standard of personal hygiene – proper hand washing, bathroom use, coughing, etc.
  • Is the designated “Person in Charge” of the kitchen as required by the MN Department of Health and must obtain and keep current the State of MN Food Manager Safety Certificate
  • Educates the food service staff in proper food safety procedures.
  • Obtain lunch count each morning, but must be willing to call individual teachers for unreported class counts
  • Requisitions and Monitors food supplies and other supplies as required. Checks in deliveries following proper procedures
  • Responsible for organizing pantry, cooler, and freezer using first-in/first-out organization and following HCCP requirements
  • Serves meals in a quick and pleasant manner. Recognizes a reimbursable meal and requires students to meet the requirements for a reimbursable meal
  • Recycles as much as possible in cooperation with NLCS philosophy
  • Responsible for cleanup of kitchen, trays, pots and pan etc. using approved sanitation methods
  • Responsible for final daily sanitizing wipe of work surfaces and kitchen appliances
  • Responsible for turning off ovens, stovetops, overhead fans, dishwasher, closing windows and doors, and locking kitchen
  • Supervises community extra-curricular/after normal-school-hours use of kitchen when required
  • Other related duties as required (such as oven cleaning, freezer defrosting, spring and fall cleaning, year-end inventory, routine cleaning, etc.)

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Attend staff meetings
  • Participate on school committees
  • Attend training as required or recommended
  • Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the mission of Northern Lights Community School and its meal program

Compensation

  • Hourly wage will be determined based on experience
  • Benefits eligible

Special Education 1:1 Paraprofessional

Northern Lights Community School is currently seeking a Special Education 1:1 Paraprofessional to assist in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream and resource room settings.

Special Education Paraprofessional Responsibilities:

Implement student lessons to meet learning objectives under direct supervision
Work directly with an individual student or student groups in daily classroom tasks, activities and assignments, monitoring and re-directing behaviors using appropriate communication and effective intervention strategies.
Implement positive student support plans as outlined and/or implementing behavior strategies outlined by the special education teacher (can include re-directing, calming or supporting replacement behaviors).
Monitor and/or recording student progress in instructional areas
Manage student physical needs when appropriate (can include toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.)
Carrying out the requirements of individual learning plans
Perform supervision of meal services, recess, and bus duties as assigned
Engage in constant reflective practices, individually and with peers, to improve the quality of your professional practice
Conduct portions of student evaluations (with training) to include: structured observations, daily student tracking, and/or teacher/student/parent interviews
Attendance at IEP and evaluation team meetings
Assist the special education teacher in planning and implementing special education curriculum
Assist the special education teacher in planning for modifying instruction of grade level content standards across curriculum
Participate in all licensed staff professional development
Attend all parent/teacher conferences for students with special needs
Respond to daily student needs when the special education teacher in otherwise engaged
Develop, implement, track, and critique interventions with students with special needs for their effectiveness
