Part-Time General Office Help

Northern Lights Community School is currently seeking a candidate to help with general office duties in the front office of the school for the 2019-2020 school year. This position pays $15/hour and will be approx. 20 hours per week during the 9-month school year. No benefits.

Office Duties

The following duties are a general idea of what is needed, but not totally inclusive – some additional duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Answer phone calls, if regarding attendance – update PowerSchool and let advisor/project manager know
  • Dispense non-prescription medication (ibuprofen / Tylenol), band-aids, etc.
  • Occasionally help with transportation questions/issues
  • Update attendance for School Social Worker
  • Deposits
  • Order supplies and postage stamps
  • MDE Food and Nutrition Training / backup (breakfast and lunch)

Board of Directors

The school board meets from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm once each month during the school year. This person would sit in on the meetings and perform the following tasks:

  • Take minutes at board meetings
  • Update board roster
  • Update board training
  • Community Calendar

Special Education

Knowledge of special education rules/laws/procedures is preferred but not required. The candidate will be trained on the following items:

  • New students: create special education file for student
    • request records electronically from previous school
    • send email to Business Manager to add student to MARSS
  • Schedule annual IEP meetings, rough draft Notice of Team Meeting, prepare student’s file
  • Notice of Transfer of Parent Rights prior to student turning 18 years of age
  • Special Education Student Acknowledgement and Tuition Agreements to Resident District
    • Returning students (I prepare these in the summer before school starts)
    • New students
    • Change in resident district if student moves
    • Change in federal setting
  • Proof December 1 Child Count and each MARSS submission
  • Provide Business Manager with direct/indirect services page after each IEP meeting
  • End of school year: organize files, make sure documents are finalized in SpEd Forms

Special Education 1:1 Paraprofessional

Northern Lights Community School is currently seeking a Special Education 1:1 Paraprofessional to assist in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream and resource room settings.

Special Education Paraprofessional Responsibilities:

Implement student lessons to meet learning objectives under direct supervision
Work directly with an individual student or student groups in daily classroom tasks, activities and assignments, monitoring and re-directing behaviors using appropriate communication and effective intervention strategies.
Implement positive student support plans as outlined and/or implementing behavior strategies outlined by the special education teacher (can include re-directing, calming or supporting replacement behaviors).
Monitor and/or recording student progress in instructional areas
Manage student physical needs when appropriate (can include toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.)
Carrying out the requirements of individual learning plans
Perform supervision of meal services, recess, and bus duties as assigned
Engage in constant reflective practices, individually and with peers, to improve the quality of your professional practice
Conduct portions of student evaluations (with training) to include: structured observations, daily student tracking, and/or teacher/student/parent interviews
Attendance at IEP and evaluation team meetings
Assist the special education teacher in planning and implementing special education curriculum
Assist the special education teacher in planning for modifying instruction of grade level content standards across curriculum
Participate in all licensed staff professional development
Attend all parent/teacher conferences for students with special needs
Respond to daily student needs when the special education teacher in otherwise engaged
Develop, implement, track, and critique interventions with students with special needs for their effectiveness
