NLCS Academic Goals

Goal #1:
Annually, of the students continuously enrolled and who took the fall NWEA, 54% will meet their expected growth rate in the area of reading as measured by the Winter or Spring NWEA reading test.

Goal #2:
Annually, of the students continuously enrolled and who took the fall NWEA, 54% will meet their expected growth rate in the area of math as measured by the Winter or Spring NWEA Math test.

Goal #3:
Annually, of the students who were continuously enrolled for at least two years, 33% will be proficient in reading as measured by the MCA Reading test*.

Goal #4:
During each of the contract years, the percentage of all tested students, enrolled by October 1st, meeting or exceeding MN mathematics performance standards (according to performance on MDE – All Accountability Tests*), will increase each year by 5%. Baseline measurement will be based on 2014 results (which have not been released as of May 2014).

*Changes in test composition and levels of difficulty will be taken into consideration when evaluating progress on goals related to state tests.

Goal #5:
Annually, 90% of NLCS general education students continuously enrolled from August to June (in each year), will demonstrate proficiency in the area of writing as measured by monthly essays meeting the 6/5/5 WiLATA scoring rubric.

Goal #6:
Annually, 80% of continuously enrolled NLCS students will be proficient in ability to present learning as measured by achieving at least a score of 3 on a school developed project presentation rubric.

Goal #7:
Annually, 75% of continuously enrolled NLCS will positively participate as active members of their community as measured by each student volunteering 25 hours of community service per year.

Goal #8:
Annually, 90% of NLCS graduates will demonstrate career and/or college readiness as measured by the completion of their school story autobiography, a resume, cover letter, a career exploration, a career WiLATA essay, a mock job interview, a job application, and a senior project.

Goal 9: Mission aligned school perceptions goal:
Annually, students will demonstrate growth in their perceptions of belongingness and academic press, as measured by the Hope Survey. NLCS has scored a rating of “Needs Improvement” in the past two years. A report will be included as to specific areas of growth and needed improvement.

Goal 10:
Annually, 90% of NLCS students will complete student learning portfolio and successfully pass a portfolio presentation, as measured by the NLCS portfolio rubric.

Goal 11:
Annually, 90% continuously enrolled NLCS students will demonstrate growth in Essential Life Skills (created by parents, students, community, and staff) as measured by the NLCS Essential Life Skills rubric.

Goal 12:
Annually, 85% continuously enrolled NLCS students will demonstrate proficiency (at least a 75% score) in the area of science as measured by curriculum-based assessments.

Goal 13:
Annually, 85% continuously enrolled NLCS students will demonstrate proficiency (at least a 75% score) in the area of social studies as measured by curriculum-based pre/post assessments.

Goal 14:
Annually, 85% of continuously enrolled high school students will demonstrate technology proficiency as measured by successfully completing the technology skills checklist before graduation.
